Air Castle Quilt Block

Air Castle is a traditional angular block with a central diamond and radiating triangles that create a star-like design. This version uses five fabrics, so careful placement gives the motif its definition. The many bias edges and close point matching make it an intermediate block.

Notes
Lay out every piece before sewing, as the half-square, quarter-square and quarter-half-square triangles are easy to turn. Assemble the smaller triangle sections first, then join them around the centre diamond. Handle bias edges lightly, and check the points at each stage so the block stays square and the diamond remains centred.
