About this quilt
Clay Irish Chain is a Double Irish Chain throw in warm cream, faded apricot, clay and walnut, set five by six of twelve-inch blocks with no sashing so the chain can run continuously across the quilt. Finished size is 74 by 86 inches. Each block is a twenty-five patch Double Irish Chain: clay squares and rectangles form the lattice, and cream fills the open spaces between. Cut the clay chain squares first and keep them consistent so the lattice stays even when the blocks meet. Join each five-by-five as a unit, pressing the chain seams toward the clay so the cream stays flat, then sew the blocks in rows without extra sashing. A faded apricot inner border settles the lattice; a walnut outer border gives the quilt a collected, antique-leaning edge. The pattern suits a confident beginner who likes square piecing and a clear rhythm of light and dark. The download is a full pattern pack with yardage, a cutting chart, piecing order and the layout for this throw.
