Deep Water Pinwheels

Deep Water Pinwheels is a lap quilt of twelve Half Square Triangle pinwheels. Each pinwheel is four 6-inch units; sea-glass setting strips keep the twelve blocks apart so the spin stays clear. Finished size is 57 by 75 inches. Deep water and warm ivory share every triangle: the dark halves turn around the centre and the ivory sits between them. The setting uses the same 6-inch grid, three pinwheels across and four down. A tidepool inner border and a harbour outer border close the edge. Pair a deep-water square with an ivory square, sew a quarter inch from both sides of a drawn diagonal, cut apart, press toward the deep water and trim to six and a half inches, then join four units, watching the centre. It suits a maker who knows the half square triangle and wants a calm coastal lap for a sofa or a bed.
