How it's made
Hi there! Let's make a joyful Epiphany crown today, shining under its star.
Epiphany, on January sixth, remembers the wise men who followed a star to the child Jesus, bringing gold, frankincense and myrrh.
We'll start with the star. Sew cream squares onto two corners of a navy rectangle and flip them back. Make four.
Turn the points outward around a cream centre, add navy corners, and sew three little rows.
Now for the crown: navy corners on a gold rectangle make a point. Make three, one for each gift, and sew them in a row.
Next, round a ruby square with little gold corners to make a jewel. Make two ruby and one teal.
Sew the jewels into a row with gold strips between, add a gold rim, and join it all to the points.
Frame it all in navy and join the rows. Look at that crown shine under its star!
Nine crowns make a lovely wall quilt for the Epiphany season.

About this quilt
A crown for Epiphany, January 6, when we remember the wise men who followed the star to the child Jesus with gold, frankincense and myrrh. A little sawtooth star shines over a three-point crown set with jewels. 12″ finished (12½″ unfinished).
CUT • Navy: four 1½ × 2½″ rectangles, four 1½″ squares, six 2″ squares, two 4½″ squares, two 2 × 5½″ strips, three 12½ × 1½″ strips • Cream: eight 1½″ squares and one 2½″ square • Gold: three 3½ × 2½″ rectangles, twelve 1¼″ squares, two 1 × 2½″ and two 1½ × 2½″ rectangles, one 9½ × 1½″ strip • Ruby: two 2½″ squares • Teal: one 2½″ square
MAKE • Star points: sew cream 1½″ squares onto both corners of one long side of each navy rectangle, trim and press • Sew the star in three rows: navy corners, points facing out, cream 2½″ centre (4½″) • Crown points: sew navy 2″ squares onto the two top corners of each gold rectangle; sew the three in a row • Jewels: sew gold 1¼″ squares onto all four corners of each ruby and teal square • Sew the jewels in a row with the gold spacers (1″ at the ends, 1½″ between), add the gold rim, and join to the points (9½ × 5½″) • Add navy 4½″ squares either side of the star, navy 2 × 5½″ strips either side of the crown, then join the rows with navy 12½ × 1½″ strips at the top, between and at the bottom
TIP: press the star-point seams toward the navy so the little points stay crisp.
