How it's made
A cosy red mug, a handle and two marshmallows on top, all from squares and strips.
Long before chocolate bars, cocoa was something you drank. Marshmallows came much later.
Round the bottom of the mug with small blue corners, then add a white stripe and the top of the mug.
Round the outside of a red strip, then sew it to a short column with a blue hole in the middle.
Blue above and below the handle make a column. Sew it to the mug with a blue strip each side.
Cocoa between the marshmallows, with a red rim each end, fills the mug right to the brim.
White tops finish the marshmallows above the rim. Join every row, with blue strips top and bottom.
Nine mugs make a cosy cocoa-bar wall hanging.

A cosy mug of hot cocoa with two marshmallows bobbing at the brim, pieced from squares and strips: no curves, no templates. 14½″ unfinished (14″ finished).
CUT • Cranberry red: one 9½ × 4½″, one 9½ × 3½″, one 1½ × 5½″, four 1½″ squares • White: one 9½ × 1½″, four 2½ × 1½″ • Cocoa brown: three 1½″ squares • Midnight blue: three 1½″ squares, two 1¼″ squares, one 1½ × 3½″, two 2½ × 1½″, one 2½″ square, one 2½ × 8½″, one 1½ × 8½″, one 3½ × 1½″, one 4½ × 1½″, one 5½ × 1½″, two 14½ × 2½″
MAKE • Mug: blue 1½″ corners on the bottom of the red 9½ × 4½″; sew the red 9½ × 3½″, white 9½ × 1½″ and that piece in a column • Handle: blue 1¼″ corners on the right-hand corners of the red 1½ × 5½″; sew it beside a column of red 1½″, blue 1½ × 3½″, red 1½″ • Add blue 2½ × 1½″ above the handle and blue 2½″ below; sew blue 2½ × 8½″, mug, handle column, blue 1½ × 8½″ • Rim: blue 2½ × 1½″, red 1½″, cocoa, white 2½ × 1½″, cocoa, white, cocoa, red 1½″, blue 3½ × 1½″ • Marshmallow tops: blue 4½ × 1½″, white 2½ × 1½″, blue 1½″, white, blue 5½ × 1½″, lined up over the white in the rim • Join the rows with blue 14½ × 2½″ strips top and bottom
TIP: pin where the marshmallow tops meet the rim so the two halves of each marshmallow line up.
