Ink and Ochre Geese

Ink and Ochre Geese is a crib quilt of Flying Geese units in Deep Ink and Ochre Field on a Chalk Linen ground, finished at 42½ × 54½ inches. The field is nine units across and twelve down, each goose four inches, and the units are rotated so that where two blocks meet the geese point into one another and read as a run of diamonds down the quilt rather than a row of arrows. Ink and ochre geese alternate, so the eye is carried by colour as much as by shape. Every goose is one large triangle with two sky triangles of chalk linen, 324 pieces in all and a single seam type. Sew the sky triangles on in the same order every time and press away from the goose so the point stays sharp and the seam allowances nest when rows come together. A narrow sage inner border and a wide Deep Ink outer border square the top and hold the pale field. It suits a maker on their first triangle quilt who wants a quiet, graphic nursery piece.
