How it's made
Hi there! Let's get started on a bright, modern plus quilt in coral and teal.
Plus quilts are a favourite with modern quilters: bold solids, one simple shape and lots of open space around it.
Everything's cut from two and a half inch strips. Start with a white row holding one coral and one teal square, and make two.
Next comes the row with the long bars of each plus, with white in between. It goes in the middle.
Now sew the three rows together with a long white strip above and below. Look, two pluses already!
Make a second strip, turn it all the way round, and sew it below the first, so the colours swap places.
Make six blocks and lay them out in three rows of two, so the pluses line up all over.
Sew the rows together and finish with a charcoal border, cut two and a half inches wide. So fresh and simple!

About this quilt
A bright modern plus quilt in coral and teal on soft white, pieced in simple rows from 2½″ strips. Six 20″ blocks, 44 × 64″ finished.
CUT (all 2½″ wide; for one 20½″ block) • Coral: four 2½″ squares, two 6½″ bars • Teal: four 2½″ squares, two 6½″ bars • White: four 2½″ squares, ten 4½″, four 8½″ and four 20½″ pieces • Charcoal: 2½″ strips for the border
MAKE • Square row: white 4½″, coral 2½″, white 8½″, teal 2½″, white 4½″. Make two • Bar row: white 2½″, coral 6½″, white 4½″, teal 6½″, white 2½″ • Sew square row, bar row, square row between two white 20½″ strips: two pluses • Make two, turn one all the way round and join them, so the colours swap: a 20½″ block • Six blocks in three rows of two, then a 2″ finished charcoal border
TIP: press seams towards the coloured pieces so the rows nest.
OTHER SIZES: each extra row of blocks adds 20″.
