How it's made

Antlers, pointed ears and a shiny red nose, all from squares and strips.

Reindeer are the only deer where the females grow antlers too. In North America, they're caribou.

Start with the eyes: two black squares, with brown between and either side.

Tiny tan corners turn a red square into a round, shiny nose. Sew a tan square each side for the muzzle.

Stack a brown forehead, the eyes, a brown strip and the muzzle. Navy corners taper it to the nose.

A brown corner on each navy side piece makes an ear. Sew one either side of the face.

Navy corners on opposite sides leave a tan diagonal. Make six, and turn three a quarter turn.

Sew each antler as a four-patch, so the branches fork upward and lean out.

Sew the antlers between navy strips and onto his head, with navy top and bottom so neighbours never touch.

Nine of them and a red border make a merry wall hanging.
