How it's made

A floppy red hat, a fluffy brim and a pom-pom, all from squares.

Santa's hat is a stocking cap: long, soft and red, trimmed in white, with a pom-pom on the end.

Sew a green square to a red one, a quarter inch each side of the diagonal, and cut. One triangle square for each side of the hat.

Green corners on a long red strip shape the crown: a big one for the slope, a small one for the fold.

Tiny green corners turn a white square into a fluffy ball. Sew it under the red tip.

Sew each triangle square onto a plain one, then join the middle row around a big red square.

Round off a white strip for the fur trim. It sits a little wider than the hat.

Join the rows, with green above and below so every hat has room to breathe.

Nine hats and a red border make a merry wall hanging.
