How it's made
Hi there! Let's put the kettle on and stitch up a cosy little teapot together.
January the twelfth is National Hot Tea Day, and the very first teapots were made in China.
Let's start at the top. Cream corners round off the lid, and tiny ones round its little knob.
Now the spout. Big cream corners on opposite sides of a red square leave a slanted strip, just like a spout.
For the handle, sew red strips around a cream rectangle, then round the outer corners.
Now the round pot: cream corners on all four corners of a red rectangle, a bit bigger on top for its shoulders.
Sew cream above and below the spout and the handle, then sew them either side of the pot.
Sew cream either side of the lid and the knob, and stack them on top of the pot. Isn't she sweet?
Last of all, a cream frame, sides first and then top and bottom, gives every teapot room to breathe.
Six teapots and a berry border make a sweet tea party table runner or a cosy kitchen wall hanging.

CUT • Cream: two 2½″ squares, four 2″ squares, four 1½″ squares, two 1″ squares, one 2½ × 3½″, one 3½″ square, three 3½ × 1½″, two 4½ × 1½″, two 6½ × 1½″, two 1½ × 9½″, two 16½ × 1½″ • Red dots: one 8½ × 7½″, one 3½″ square, two 3½ × 1½″, one 1½ × 3½″ • Berry: one 6½ × 1½″, one 2½ × 1½″
MAKE • Lid: cream 1½″ squares on the top corners of the berry 6½ × 1½″; cream 1″ squares on the top corners of the berry 2½ × 1½″ knob • Spout: cream 2″ squares on the top-right and bottom-left corners of the red 3½″ square, one at a time • Handle: cream 2½ × 3½″ beside red 1½ × 3½″; red 3½ × 1½″ above and below; cream 1½″ squares on the two outer corners • Pot: cream 2½″ squares on the top corners of the red 8½ × 7½″, cream 2″ squares on the bottom corners • Spout column: cream 3½ × 1½″, spout, cream 3½″. Handle column: cream 3½ × 1½″, handle, cream 3½ × 1½″. Sew them either side of the pot • Top: cream 6½ × 1½″, knob, cream 6½ × 1½″; cream 4½ × 1½″, lid, cream 4½ × 1½″; stack them on the pot • Frame: cream 1½ × 9½″ sides, then 16½ × 1½″ top and bottom
TIP: sew the two spout corners one at a time, and press the first before you add the second, so the slant stays crisp.
OTHER SIZES: for a teapot twice as big, cut every piece at twice its size less ½″ (a 3½″ square becomes 6½″).
