Terracotta Ink Steps

Terracotta Ink Steps is a Courthouse Steps throw, finished at 76 × 90 inches, with thirty twelve-inch blocks set five by six and separated by two-inch Chalk Linen sashing. Each block starts from a Terracotta Clay centre and builds outward in pairs of logs, chalk linen on two opposite sides and Deep Ink on the other two, so the finished block is a pale band and a dark band crossing at a warm square. The blocks alternate orientation across the grid: in one the dark logs run across, in the next they run down, and the sashing between them keeps each block a separate step rather than letting the logs join into stripes. There are 390 pieces, all rectangles, with no triangles and no matching points, which is what makes a quilt of this size manageable. Press each pair of logs toward the ink as you work out from the centre so the pale logs sit flat and the block squares up without trimming. A terracotta inner border echoes the centres and a Deep Ink outer border holds the field. It suits a confident beginner who likes a long, steady piecing rhythm and a room that wants warmth without pattern.
