About this pattern

Ink Northwind is a queen quilt of Northwind blocks: fifty-six twelve-inch units set seven across and eight down, with no sashing, so the ink triangles keep their heading from one block into the next. Finished size is 96 by 108 inches. Each Northwind is a four-by-four of three-inch patches — ten Chalk Linen squares and six half-square triangles of Deep Ink on chalk — stacked as a stair. Every block is sewn in the same rotation, so the stairs lock into one current down the bed. Make the half-square triangles first, press each triangle seam into the Deep Ink so the chalk patches lie smooth, then build each stair in rows and square the block before it joins its neighbour; watch the points where patches meet. A two-inch Terracotta Clay inner border warms the chalk field and a four-inch Deep Ink outer border weights the edge. It suits a confident piecer who knows half-square triangles and wants a quiet, directional cover for a queen bed. The download is the pattern pack: yardage, a cutting chart, the row order inside the block, and this queen layout.
