Citron Choice Plus

Citron Choice Plus is a 71 by 71 inch square throw of Sister's Choice blocks. Each 12-inch unit is a five-by-five set: twelve Ledger Cream squares, nine coloured squares, and four half-square triangles whose dark points face the centre to make the Four X Star. Twenty-five blocks join on their edges so the cream ground continues across the quilt. Sixteen Cobalt Ledger stars hold the four corner groups, eight Warm Paprika stars form a plus through the middle, and one Plum Ledger star marks the crossing. Odd cells rotate a quarter turn so the inner triangles face a new way as you cross each row. Citron Field makes a 2-inch inner border; plum makes a 3.5-inch outer frame that echoes the centre star.

Sew each star as five rows of squares, converting the four inner-corner cells to HSTs. Place paprika only on the centre row and centre column, nest the seams, and match those four triangle points so the plus stays straight when the rows join. It suits a confident piecer who wants a bold square for a sofa, a wall, or a small bed, with three colourways of one block instead of three patterns to learn.
