About this pattern
Valentine's Ribbon Cabins is a Valentine's Day queen of Log Cabin blocks in candle cream, berry red and plum velvet, with ribbon gold only in the sashing. Seven ten-inch cabins sit across and eight down. Two-inch gold sashings, cream squares at every crossing, a two-inch berry inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch plum outer finish at 93 by 105 inches.
The Log Cabin opens on a plum hearth. Cream logs build the light diagonal and berry logs the dark, so each cabin reads as a cream-and-berry Valentine. Cut the plum square first, then sew cream and berry strips around it in pairs until the block is ten inches. Press each round toward the newest log so the hearth stays centred and the seams nest against the gold.
Gold is the supporting ribbon between the cabins; berry is the inner band; plum is the February frame. A maker who enjoys strip piecing at bed scale and keeps the log widths even will manage this queen. Spread it on the dining-room settle for a Valentine supper, or keep it on the upstairs landing chair where the February post is sorted. Yardage for the four solids, a cutting chart for the ten-inch Log Cabin, the round-by-round piecing order, and the 7-by-8 layout come with the download.
