About this pattern

Valentine's Berry Bricks is a Valentine's Day queen quilt pieced from Brick blocks in berry red and candle cream. Seven ten-inch blocks sit across, eight down, with two-and-a-half-inch ribbon-gold sashing, a two-inch cream inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch plum outer. Finished size is 96 by 108½ inches.

Each Brick uses three rectangles: a long berry piece for the top half, then a cream rectangle and a berry rectangle sharing the lower half, so a pale step sits in the lower left of every block. Cut the three pieces, sew the lower pair first, then join them to the long brick, pressing toward the cream so the seam nests against the gold sashing.

Gold is the supporting ribbon between the berry field; cream is the inner band; plum is the February frame around a queen bed. A maker who enjoys rectangle piecing at bed scale and keeps the two lower pieces the same height will manage this queen. It belongs on a queen mattress through Valentine's week, or over the footboard when cards sit on the dressing table. Yardage for berry, cream, gold and plum, a cutting chart for the ten-inch Brick, the sewing sequence, and the 7-by-8 layout come with the download.
