Walnut Ohio Star

Walnut Ohio Star is a throw of twenty Ohio Star blocks, also known as Variable Star, in walnut, warm cream, faded apricot, honey and clay. Four twelve-inch blocks sit across and five down, with two-inch apricot sashing between them. A two-inch honey inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch clay outer border finish the top at 65 by 79 inches.

The Ohio Star is a nine-patch of cream corner squares, a walnut centre, and four quarter-square hourglasses that form the eight points. Pair cream and walnut squares on both diagonals for those hourglasses, press toward the walnut, then join three rows so the walnut points meet the centre square. Cream corners keep the stars from crowding; apricot sashing holds each one in its own field. Honey is a narrow band of warmth before the clay edge.
