About this pattern

Walnut Contrary Wife is a queen-size Contrary Wife quilt in walnut, warm cream, honey, faded apricot and clay. Forty-two twelve-inch blocks sit six across and seven down, each separated by two-inch honey sashing so the dark plus of every unit has a gold frame. The top finishes at 95 by 109 inches. Contrary Wife is a nine-patch with walnut squares on the four sides, a cream square in the middle, and walnut-and-cream half-square triangles in the corners, so a cream star sits inside a walnut cross. Pair walnut and cream squares to make the four corner triangles, then assemble each nine-patch in three rows, pressing the walnut side squares inward so the cream centre sits quietly. Join the blocks with honey strips. A faded apricot inner border and a clay outer border close the edges. This pattern suits someone who has already sewn a few half-square triangles and wants a bed quilt with a steady, readable repeat. The download includes yardage, a cutting chart, the piecing order for the Contrary Wife unit, and the six-by-seven layout.
