About this pattern
Cornflower Spools is a Spool lap quilt in buttermilk, cornflower, buttercup and barn red, set ten by thirteen of five-inch blocks with one-and-a-half-inch buttermilk sashing so each spool has a little air around it. Finished size is 74 by 93 inches. The Spool is a thirteen-piece unit: a cornflower centre with flared ends, cream filling the sides, so the block looks like a reel of thread. Alternate the rotation of every other block so half the spools stand upright and half lie on their sides; that is the rhythm that keeps the field lively. Cut the spool ends from paired squares, sew them to the centre rectangle, then add the cream sides; press toward the cornflower so the cream stays flat. A buttercup inner border and a barn-red outer border bring in the other two primaries. The pattern suits a beginner who likes a small, repeatable block and a bright folk colour plan. The download is a full pattern pack with yardage, a cutting chart, piecing order and the layout for this lap quilt.
