About this pattern

Primary Nine Lattice is twelve Double Nine Patch blocks, each fifteen inches, set three by four with two-and-a-half-inch Buttercup sashing so the yellow sits as a loud grid, not a pale spacer. The top finishes at 60 by 77½ inches. Six blocks use Barn Red on Buttermilk and six use Cornflower on Buttermilk, placed in a checkerboard so each row runs red, blue, red or the reverse. The Double Nine Patch is a nine-patch of units: five-spot nine-patches occupy the four corners and the centre, cream filling the four side positions of each little nine-patch, and four plain five-inch buttermilk squares fill the remaining units. Strip-piece those five-spot units from two-and-one-eighth-inch squares, sew the nine units together like any nine-patch, and press toward the dark. Two inches of buttermilk sit inside a three-inch ink-black outer border. Aimed at a confident beginner who likes squares and a bright folk throw, and who can swap the red and the blue without rewriting the cutting. What you get is the yardage list for all five solids, cuts for the little squares and the five-inch cream units, the order to sew one Double Nine Patch, and the twelve-block map.
