About this pattern

Red Ohio Stars sets twenty twelve-inch Ohio Star blocks four across and five down, with two-inch Cornflower sashing so each red star sits in a blue window. Finished size is 64" × 78". Barn Red is the centre square and the eight star points; Buttermilk fills the four corners and the pale triangles in each side unit. The Ohio Star is a nine-patch: four buttermilk corners, one red centre, and four hourglass units. Each hourglass is a quarter-square triangle made from paired squares, marked and cut twice; press toward the red so the points stay crisp, then sew the nine units in three rows. Chain-piece the hourglasses first and put the blocks together after. A two-inch Buttercup border and a three-inch Ink Black border close the primaries. Aimed at a piecer who already likes half-square triangles and wants a lively primary cover for a sofa or the end of a bed. Yardage, cutting for the squares and quarter-squares, the Ohio Star order, and the twenty-block map are in the download.
