About this pattern

Dusty Violet Churn Dash is a lap of forty-two eight-inch Churn Dash blocks, six across and seven down, separated by two-inch Berry sashing. The finished quilt is 70 × 80 inches. Churn Dash, or Monkey Wrench, is a nine-patch of four half-square triangles, four bar units and a centre square. Dusty Violet takes the corner triangles and the side bars; Pale Lilac takes the centre and the light half of each triangle, so the block sits as a pale panel inside a violet frame. Berry strips hold the frames apart, and the surface beats as lilac panels against rose-plum lines. Assemble each block in three rows: pair rectangles for the bars, cut paired squares once on the diagonal for the corners, then sew the rows, matching violet bars to the triangle edges. Send the bar seams into the Dusty Violet so the centre square does not ridge. Two inches of Plum and four inches of Aubergine bind the outside. It suits someone comfortable joining half-square triangles to straight bars in a repeating nine-patch, and it lives on a sofa or a narrow bed. Yardage for the five solids, a cutting chart, the nine-patch order and a 6 × 7 layout are in the download.
