Aubergine Double X

Aubergine Double X is a queen of fifty-six Double X blocks, each ten inches, set seven across and eight down with two-inch Dusty Violet sashing between them, finished at 96 × 108 inches. The Double X is a nine-patch of half-square triangles: four Aubergine triangles sit in the corners of every block and a fifth occupies the centre, so a Pale Lilac diamond is held inside a dark frame; the sashing keeps each diamond separate, and the field reads as a measured grid rather than a continuous lattice. Cut the half-square triangles from paired squares, sew the four corner units and the centre unit, then join them with the four Pale Lilac squares that sit on the sides. Press toward the Aubergine so the lilac diamond stays smooth where the points meet. A Plum inner border and an Aubergine outer border finish the frame.
