About this pattern
Aubergine Puzzle is a Dutchman's Puzzle throw in candlewax cream, lichen and aubergine, set five by six of twelve-inch blocks with no sashing so the geese keep flying from one block into the next. Finished size is 73 by 85 inches. Each Dutchman's Puzzle is eight flying-geese units arranged in a pinwheel: aubergine geese on candlewax, four pairs turning around the centre. Cut the geese from paired squares, sew the cream triangles to each goose, and press toward the aubergine so the candlewax stays flat. Nest the points where four geese meet in the middle of the block. A lichen inner border and an aubergine outer border hold the night field. The pattern suits a piecer who is comfortable with flying geese and wants a bold seasonal top that still reads as clear patchwork.
