About this pattern

Halloween Night Sixteen is a Halloween queen of Sixteen Patch blocks in candle cream, clementine and plum velvet. Seven ten-inch blocks sit across and eight down, with two-inch cream sashing, a two-inch clementine inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch plum outer, finishing at 93 by 105 inches.

Each Sixteen Patch is a four-by-four of two-and-a-half-inch squares. One colourway checks cream against clementine; the other checks clementine against plum, so pumpkin orange sits once on candlelight and once on night. Alternate them even and odd, with cream sashing as the path between the windows.

Assemble each checkerboard as strip-pieced rows of four, reverse the press on every other row, and pin the nested seams before joining the rows. Work from two labelled piles so a cream-clementine block never sits beside another of the same pair, then sew the cream sashing, the clementine band and the plum frame.

A sewist who likes square piecing at bed scale can put this on the spare-room mattress through late October, or across the settle after a walk around the houses. The download covers yardage for the three solids, cutting for both colourways, the four-by-four piecing order, and the 7-by-8 layout.
