About this pattern
Halloween Lantern Cabins is a Halloween baby quilt of Log Cabin blocks in candle cream, clementine and plum velvet. Four eight-inch cabins sit across and five down, butted with no sashing, then a two-inch cream inner border and a two-inch plum outer. Finished size is 40 by 48 inches.
Each Log Cabin opens with a cream hearth, then clementine logs on the light diagonal and plum logs on the dark, so the block reads as a pumpkin lantern against Halloween night. Cut the cream square first, add a clementine strip then a plum strip, and keep adding those pairs until the cabin measures eight inches. Press each round toward the outside so the seams nest.
Butted cabins let the clementine halves join into one warm slope and the plum halves into one night slope. The cream border is the sill; the plum border is the October dark beyond it.
This is for a sewist who likes strip piecing at baby scale and will keep the log widths even. It would live over a cot rail through October, or on a small armchair while costumes are tried on. The download holds yardage, cutting for the eight-inch Log Cabin, the round-by-round piecing order, and the 4-by-5 layout.
