Built from the Framed Square quilt block.
About this pattern
Sherbet Window Tiles is a 58 by 66 inch lap quilt built from the Framed Square block, also called Bordered Square. Forty-two eight-inch blocks sit in a six-by-seven grid with no sashing, so the frames share edges and the cream centres read as a tidy grid of windows. Each Framed Square is nine squares: eight in one pastel for the frame, and Picture Book Cream in the middle. Sherbet Peach and Lemon Sherbet take the even rows; Toy-Box Mint and Soft Lilac take the odd ones, repeating in a two-by-two that keeps neighbouring frames a different colour.
A one-and-a-half-inch Soft Charcoal Line sits just outside the patchwork, then a three-and-a-half-inch Sherbet Peach border carries the peach frames out to the edge. Cut only squares. Sew each Framed Square as a three-by-three, pressing so the cream centre stays centred and the frame seams nest where blocks meet. Join rows, then add charcoal and peach.
A calm first pieced quilt for a sofa, a child's bed, or wrapping a baby on a long afternoon. Your download has fabric yardage, a cutting chart, the sewing order, and the finished layout.
