About this pattern

Toy Box Spools is a 41 by 49 inch baby quilt pieced from the traditional Spool block. Twenty eight-inch squares sit in a four-by-five grid with no sashing, so the reels touch like threads in a drawer. Each Spool is an I-shape: a pastel bar through the middle, flared ends, and four cream triangles at the corners. Picture Book Cream fills those corners and the side pockets. Sherbet Peach and Toy-Box Mint run in upright columns, peach then mint across each row. Nothing is rotated.

A one-and-a-half-inch Soft Charcoal Line outlines the patchwork. A three-inch Lemon Sherbet border finishes the edge in a yellow kept off the blocks. Cut squares and half-square triangles for every Spool, join the nine-patch so the bar stays vertical and the cream triangles meet at the corners, sew columns, then add charcoal and lemon. Keep the flared ends aligned where blocks meet.

Made for a crib, a pram, or a first small gift. The download includes yardage, a cutting chart, piecing order, and the full layout.
