About this pattern
Dusk Hourglasses is an Hourglasses throw in frost, dusk, periwinkle and ink blue, set five by six of twelve-inch blocks with no sashing so the units tessellate into a field of diamonds. Finished size is 73 by 85 inches. Each block is a grid of hourglass units: two half-square triangles sewn into a quarter-square, dusk against frost, so that from across a room the quilt reads as a precise on-point checkerboard of winter sky. Cut the half-square triangles in pairs and sew them into hourglasses before you join the block; press toward the dusk so the frost stays flat and the points nest where four diamonds meet. There is no extra sashing; the diamonds run to the inner border. A periwinkle inner border and an ink outer border hold the field the way a night window holds a pale sky. The pattern suits a piecer who is comfortable with half-square triangles and wants a measured, wintry result. The download is a full pattern pack with yardage, a cutting chart, piecing order and the layout for this throw.
