About this pattern

Twenty 10-inch Churn Dash blocks — Monkey Wrench if you learned it that way — sit four across and five down in Plum Teal Wrenches, finishing 54 by 66 inches. Two-inch Signal Violet sashing draws a cool lattice through the field.

Parade Cream fills the centre square, the inner bar of each side unit, and the inner half of every corner triangle. Parade Plum takes the outer bars and outer triangles on the even cells; Parade Teal takes them on the odd cells. A 1½-inch Parade Plum inner border repeats the even-block value. A 2½-inch Coral Flare outer border is the one hot colour, and it never enters a block.

Each Churn Dash is a nine-patch of four half-square triangles, four bar units and a centre square. Sew the HSTs, strip-piece each bar and press toward plum or teal, then join the nine-patch around the cream square. Match the violet lattice before you chase dash points. Drop teal and run Coral Flare on the odd cells for a hotter checker; cream and plum still pin the light and the dark.

HST-and-bar piecing for a kitchen chair, a radiator shelf, or the arm of a reading sofa. Pull the pack for fabric amounts, the cut list, sew order and the 4 × 5 grid.
