Stepped Cabin Interval

Stepped Cabin Interval is a king of forty-nine 12-inch Log Cabin blocks, finished at 104 by 104 inches. Each unit starts with a Terracotta Mesa hearth. Pale Adobe logs step along two adjacent sides; Mineral Blue logs take the other two, splitting the block on the diagonal. The forty-nine blocks meet edge to edge. Quadrant rotations turn the pale halves inward, so a light diamond gathers at the centre while the mineral logs thicken toward the edge. A 2-inch Sun Clay inner border, then an 8-inch Pale Adobe outer border, sets the piecing in a wide band of ground.

Sew light, then dark, around the hearth, keeping strip width even so the centre stays square; press each log away from the middle. Set the blocks in seven rows of seven from the rotation map. The work is strip piecing at a generous scale, suited to a king bed or a wall that can hold a square this large.
