About this pattern
Foxfire Puzzle lays Dutchman's Puzzle blocks across a baby top: lichen geese on aubergine, each eight-inch square framed in two-inch candlewax sashing so the pinwheels sit apart like lantern panes. Four across and five down, plus a two-inch tarnished-gold inner border and a three-inch moss-shadow outer border, finish at 48 by 58 inches. The cream lattice is the candlelight; moss and gold close the frame. Each block is eight flying-geese units paired into four arms around the centre. Every other block is rotated a quarter turn, so the lichen arms face a new compass point instead of lining up as one wheel. Sew every goose from a lichen rectangle with aubergine triangles at the sides, join pairs into quadrants, then join the quadrants and match the four hub points. Press the dark triangles under the lichen so the points hold. Written for a piecer already happy with flying geese, at crib scale, with pale frames between the wheels. Spread it on a cot through late autumn, or keep it on a low shelf in a child's room. You get a pattern pack: yardage for the five solids, a cutting chart for the 48-by-58-inch crib, piecing order, and the four-by-five plan.
