About this pattern

Lichen Goose Chase sets the traditional Wild Goose Chase block on a Halloween throw: lichen triangles on candlewax cream, each twelve-inch square held in two-inch aubergine sashing, then a moss-shadow inner border and a tarnished-gold outer border. Five blocks across and six down finish at 81 by 95 inches. Inside every block, eight flying-geese units stand in two columns of four, lichen on cream, all heading one way. Neighbouring blocks rotate ninety degrees, so the geese turn a corner from cell to cell rather than crossing the quilt in one flock. Sew each goose from a lichen rectangle with cream triangles at the sides, join pairs into columns, then join the columns, watching the points where the geese meet. The dark sashing is what keeps this chase from reading as a single flight. This is a confident piecing project: flying geese at a generous twelve-inch scale, then straight sashing and borders. Hang it over a banister in October, or keep it folded on a window seat where the gold border can catch lamp light. The download includes yardage for these five fabrics, a cutting chart for the 81-by-95-inch layout, piecing order, and the block grid.
