Built from the Quarter Square Triangle quilt block.
About this pattern
This throw is built from Quarter Square Triangle blocks — hourglasses, or Four Triangle Square — with tarnished gold set against aubergine. Five twelve-inch squares sit across, six down. Candlewax cream, two inches wide, separates the cells so each glass has a pale frame instead of sharing an edge. A lichen band of two inches and a moss-shadow band of three inches finish the rim. The top measures 78 by 92 inches. Two gold triangles and two aubergine triangles meet at the hub of every square. Every other cell is spun ninety degrees: a tall glass beside a bowtie, cream stopping the gold from pooling. Piece each unit from paired squares, stitch both diagonals, cut, join the halves, and match the four tips; press the seams under the aubergine. Written for a piecer already at ease with quarter-square units who wants a seasonal sofa quilt at a generous twelve-inch scale. Lay it on a piano bench through October, or keep it on a radiator cover in a cold porch. You receive yardage amounts for the five solids, a cutting chart for seventy-eight by ninety-two inches, piecing order, and the five-by-six layout.
