Leaf Friendship Stars

Leaf Friendship Stars is a Friendship Star throw in garden cream, leaf green and blossom, set five by six of twelve-inch blocks with two-inch cream sashing so each star has a little air around it. Finished size is 81 by 95 inches. Alternate leaf-green and blossom stars on the checkerboard as you go: each block is a nine-patch Friendship Star with a solid centre square and four half-square triangles for the points, cream filling the corners. Cut the half-square triangles first and sew them to the centre square before adding the cream corners; press the star seams toward the coloured fabric so the cream stays flat. Cream sashing keeps the field open. A chartreuse inner border and a woodland outer border square the quilt and keep the greens from floating. The pattern suits a beginner who is ready for half-square triangles and a simple colour plan.
