About this pattern

Graphite Pinwheel is a lap quilt of Pinwheel blocks, finished at 59 by 71 inches. Twenty twelve-inch blocks sit four across and five down, joined on every side so the rotors share edges and the field becomes one spinning lattice. Each Pinwheel is four half-square triangles, Warm Ivory against Near Black, sewn so the dark blades chase clockwise around a single centre. Because every block turns the same way, the dark points of neighbouring pinwheels meet in a small dark diamond at the four-block corner, and the ivory blades lock into a pale cross between them. Cut the half-square triangles from paired squares, press each seam toward Near Black, and keep the dark blade on the same corner of every unit as you assemble the four. A two-inch Pewter band and a three-and-a-half-inch Near Black border finish the edge. The scale is a lap, meant for a chair or the end of a sofa, for a quilter who wants that clockwise pulse and is willing to match the eight points at each pinwheel centre. The download includes yardage for the three solids, a cutting chart for the half-square triangles, the assembly order for each block, and the four-by-five layout.
