About this pattern

Thanksgiving Split Rails is a Thanksgiving throw that sets the table in fabric: Split Rail blocks of ribbon gold and plum velvet, clementine sashing, and candle cream inside a plum frame. The throw is five blocks across and six down, each twelve inches, with two-inch sashing, a two-inch cream inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch plum outer. Finished size is 79 by 93 inches.

Sew three equal strips into each block — gold, plum, gold — then square to twelve inches. Press the seams toward the plum rail so the gold stays smooth and the join is easy to nest. Turn every other block ninety degrees; a vertical rail then meets a horizontal one and the field weaves like a harvest fence instead of a brick wall.

Clementine sashing is the squash-coloured grid between the rails; cream is the linen band that sits before the plum border. This is for a confident beginner who likes strip piecing and will keep the three rails the same width. It lives on a sitting-room sofa in November, or over the extra dining chairs when family arrives. Buyers get a pattern pack with yardage, a cutting chart, the Split Rail piecing order and this throw's layout.
