Built from the Churn Dash quilt block.

About this pattern

Churn Dash blocks, six across and seven down, meet without sashing. Two colourways take turns: buttercream with deep-berry dashes, then dusty rose with quiet-moss dashes. It measures 83 by 95 inches when sewn — a large throw for a sofa or the lower half of a double bed.

Each twelve-inch block is four half-square triangles for the corners, four strip pairs for the side dashes, and a centre square of the ground. Join those nine units in three rows. The triangle seams sit on the bias, so press from the side rather than along the diagonal. Set the rows so a cream block always sits next to a rose one.

A two-inch worn-walnut band sits next to the blocks. A three-and-a-half-inch faded-berry outer border takes the berry colour out to the edge.

It suits a quilter who already sews half-square triangles and wants a large throw with two grounds rather than one. The download includes yardage, cutting for both colourways and both borders, the piecing order, and a six-by-seven layout.
