Berry and Moss Disappear

This throw is pieced from Disappearing Nine Patch blocks in two close colourways, five across and six down, so the surface shifts as you look. It finishes at 77 by 91 inches — enough to pull over a sofa or leave at the foot of a double bed.

Buttercream holds the lights in the berry blocks and the two-inch sashing. Deep berry fills the darks of every other block; its neighbours use quiet moss on a dusty-rose ground, and that dusty rose returns in the cornerstones. A two-inch faded-berry inner border gathers the grid, with a two-and-a-half-inch moss outer border around it.

Each block starts as a nine-patch of squares. You cut it in half both ways, then turn the four units so the original centres wander. The cut edges of those middle patches sit on the bias and like to stretch, so sew them gently. Alternate the berry and moss colourways as you set the rows, giving every other block a quarter turn.
