Moss-Framed Berry Snowballs

This queen quilt is made of Snowball blocks, nine across and eleven down, set edge to edge so the corners touch. It finishes at 92 by 110 inches, which will cover a queen mattress and drop a little over the sides.

You begin with a nine-inch square of deep berry or quiet moss. A small buttercream square goes on each corner; stitch the diagonal, trim the extra and press, and the middle sits as a softened octagon. The inner seven-by-nine field is all deep berry. One row of quiet-moss Snowballs frames that field. Every corner is the same buttercream, so the little diamonds where four blocks meet keep travelling through the moss as well.

A two-inch dusty-rose inner border rests against the moss row. A three-and-a-half-inch faded-berry outer border carries the quilt out to size.

The corner seams sit on the bias of those small squares, so pin them and sew without pulling. This one belongs on a bed that already sees daily use, and it suits a quilter who is happy repeating a simple corner unit until the top is large.
