About this pattern

Flock Across the Beds sets the traditional Birds in the Air block as a queen top: seventy-two ten-inch blocks, eight across and nine down, joined without sashing so the triangles run on from one unit to the next. The top finishes at 95 by 105 inches. Garden cream is the sky in every block. Woodland and blossom clay take the bird triangles on alternate squares, all oriented the same way, so the field reads as one flock moving toward a single corner. Each block is a large cream triangle sewn to a pieced triangle made of three matching half-square triangles; assemble the three HSTs first, then join on the long edge, keeping the bias from stretching as you stitch. Press toward the darker triangle. A two-inch woodland inner border puts a dark line around the piecing; a five-and-a-half-inch blossom clay outer border warms the edge and repeats the terracotta birds. The pattern suits a confident piecer who is happy to chain-piece half-square triangles at this scale. The file you download has yardage, a cutting chart, block assembly order, and this queen layout.
