Ink Churn Dash

Ink Churn Dash is a Churn Dash throw, five by seven of twelve-inch blocks, no sashing. A two-inch mist-blue inner border and a three-and-a-half-inch ink-navy outer border bring it to 71 × 95 inches. Pale ground fills the four-inch centre square and the inner half of each side unit. Ink navy takes the four corner half-square triangles and the outer rail of each side pair, so the dark value sits on the block edge. Cut centres as four-inch squares. Pair two-by-four rectangles, navy to the outside. Make corner HSTs from squares cut once on the diagonal, navy pointing to the corner. Join as a nine-patch: HST, rail, HST on the top and bottom rows; rail, centre, rail through the middle. Press rails toward navy and HST seams toward the pale. Where four corners meet they make a navy square; where two rails meet they make a bar. Mist blue sits between the field and the bound edge. It suits a maker who already sews half-square triangles and wants a tall throw for a sofa or a single bed.
