About this pattern
Teal Violet Stars is a 69 by 81 inch throw pieced from thirty 12-inch Sawtooth Star blocks on a 5 by 6 grid. There is no sashing: star points kiss at every shared edge. Parade Cream is the background in all four corners of every block. Parade Teal takes the star in the first, third and fifth columns; Signal Violet takes the second and fourth, so the colour changes in stripes down the quilt rather than in a checker.
A 2-inch Coral Flare inner border and a 2½-inch Parade Plum outer border frame the field. Coral never enters the stars, which stops the inner stripe from dissolving into a block; plum is the lowest value and holds the whole parade in.
A Sawtooth Star is a centre square, four flying-geese points and four corner squares. Pair half-square triangles into each goose, press toward the teal or violet, then join geese to the centre before the cream corners. Nest the point seams where a teal stripe meets a violet one. Drop Parade Teal and run Coral Flare in those columns for a hotter mix.
This one suits a confident piecer who wants a throw with an eighties beat for the sofa or a spare bed. The file gives yardage, a cutting chart, piecing order and the 5 by 6 layout.
