What’s New in Quiltler

Every feature we’ve shipped for quilters, newest first. Each one says what it does, where it lives in the studio, and links straight to it.

Have a Quiltler account? When something big ships we write you a letter about it, showing how it works. You can choose which emails you get from the link at the bottom of any of them.

Improvement

Arrange the charts in a pattern made of squares

A quilt of equal squares prints as lettered section charts. Now you choose the section size, drag the lines between sections, rename them, and pick which letter each fabric goes by.

  • Open the printable pattern and choose the Sections tab.
  • Fabric letters work on every printable pattern: on other quilts they're at the bottom of the Construction tab.

New

Buy one quilt's pattern on its own

No subscription needed for a single project. One purchase unlocks a saved quilt's exact sizes, yardage, picture downloads and printable pattern, and it stays yours to download again.

  • Open a saved quilt, choose the printable pattern, and pick This quilt's pattern.

Improvement

Install the studio and design with no connection

Quiltler Studio installs like an app, from the studio home. The designer keeps working on a plane or at a retreat, and your saves sync when you're back online.

  • Chrome and Edge get an Install button; Safari on an iPad or a Mac shows where its Add to Home Screen or Add to Dock command is.
  • Anything made offline waits on this device and goes up to your account when the connection comes back.

New technique

Foundation paper piecing

A fourth way to start a quilt. Draw straight seams across a panel and Quiltler numbers every patch in sewing order, splits the block into sections, and prints mirrored, true-scale foundation sheets.

  • Start from a flying geese strip, a spiky star, a mariner's compass, a New York Beauty quarter, a photo, or a blank panel.
  • Draw under mirror, ×4 or ×8 symmetry, and Repeat the panel across a quilt; identical sections print once.
  • The pattern adds a fabric key, rough cuts and a section map with the joining order.

New

Portfolios

A page of the quilts and blocks you're proudest of. Keep it private, share it by link, or make it public for others to find under Explore.

Improvement

Resize a quilt in one step

Take a design to another size from Layout → Resize Quilt: bigger blocks, more blocks, or a border, with a preview before you commit. It's one undo if you change your mind.

New

A construction plan in the printable pattern

The pattern's Construction tab chooses how each block is sewn (strip sets, half-square triangles, flying geese) and shows short films comparing the methods.

  • Tap a seam to split a block into sections, and print a section as one piece.
  • A quilt of equal squares is charted in lettered sections.
  • Patterns render in a fraction of the time they used to.

Improvement

Build blocks from blocks

Drop finished blocks inside a new block in the block builder. Turned pieces snap back onto the grid, and the right panel puts search first.

New tool

A rotary cutter in the designer

Slice pieces on the design the way a ruler and cutter do on the mat, snapping to the quarter inch and to 45°. Mark your cuts, then Finalize makes them all at once.

  • Straight, circle, fan, curve and grid-dot rulers, with presets for halving, 45° through the centre and an exact offset.
  • One cell keeps a cut inside a single grid cell.
  • Press K in the designer, or choose Rotary cutter in the tool dock. The same blade is in the Cut Creator.

Free tool

Free quilting calculators

Backing, binding, batting, borders, sashing, half-square triangles, flying geese, fat quarters, precuts and more. Free, with no account, on the site, in the studio and on iPhone.
