Calculators

Count the strips in your yardage

The Strips calculator tells you how many strips of a width you get from a length of fabric, or how much to buy for a number of strips.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Strips. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the strip calculator
On the Strips calculator, changing the yardage from 1 to 2 yards doubles the count of 2 1/2 inch strips from 14 to 28

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Strips. It opens on 2½″ strips from 1 yard, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Choose what to Work out: How many strips in this yardage or Yardage for this many strips.
  3. Type the Strip width (inches), and the Yardage or the Number of strips.
  4. Read the card: the strips you get, or the fabric to buy.

Good to know

  • Strips are cut across the width of the fabric, selvage to selvage. Change Usable fabric width (inches) if yours isn't 42″.
