Calculators

Make a hanging sleeve for a quilt show

The Hanging sleeve calculator gives the strip to cut for a rod pocket on the back of your quilt, with ease, and the fabric it takes.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Hanging sleeve. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the sleeve calculator
On the Hanging sleeve calculator, changing the quilt width from 60 to 80 inches makes the strip 79 inches long and 9 inches tall, joined from 2 strips, from 1/2 yard

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Hanging sleeve. It opens on a 60″ wide quilt with a 4″ sleeve, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Type your Quilt width (inches).
  3. Change Finished sleeve depth (inches) if your show or rod needs something other than 4″.
  4. Read the card: how tall to cut the strip, its Cut length (an inch shorter than the quilt), how many strips to join, and the fabric.

Good to know

  • The extra height is ease, so the rod doesn't pull the front of the quilt out of shape.
  • Stitch the top edge into the binding seam and hand-sew the bottom edge to the back.
