Calculators

Make flying geese in the size you want

The Flying geese calculator gives the goose and sky pieces to cut for no-waste geese four at a time, or stitch-and-flip geese one at a time, and the size to trim them to.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Flying geese. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the flying geese calculator
On the Flying geese calculator, typing a 3 inch finished height and 16 geese gives 4 goose squares at 7 1/4 inches and 16 sky squares at 3 7/8 inches, trimmed to 6 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Flying geese. It opens on eight geese 2 × 4″, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Type Finished height (inches). Leave Finished width (inches) empty for the usual goose, twice as wide as it's tall.
  3. Choose a Method: No-waste, four at a time or Stitch-and-flip, one at a time.
  4. Type How many geese you need.
  5. Read the card: the goose pieces, the Sky squares, and the size to trim each goose to.

Good to know

  • No-waste geese must be twice as wide as tall. For any other shape, type a width and use stitch-and-flip.
