Calculators

Find the batting size for your quilt

The Batting calculator adds overhang to your quilt and names the smallest standard batting package that covers it.

Where to find it

Studio top bar → Calculators → Batting. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.

Open the batting calculator
On the Batting calculator, typing a quilt 90 by 108 inches changes the batting from 68 by 80 to 98 by 116 inches, and the smallest package that fits from Twin to King

How to do it

  1. Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Batting. It opens on a 60 × 72″ quilt, with the answer already in the You need card.
  2. Type your quilt's Quilt width (inches) and Quilt length (inches).
  3. Leave Overhang each side (inches) at 4, or change it to what your quilter asks for.
  4. Read the card: the batting size to cut, the square yards, and the Smallest package that fits.

Good to know

  • Buying batting off the roll? Use the size at the top of the card and the square yards.
  • Longarm quilters often ask for more overhang than a home machine needs. Check before you buy.
