Blocks & shapes

Save a drawing as separate shapes

Drew several pieces that fit together, like the two halves of a moon? Save as separate shapes saves each piece as its own shape, each keeping its place in the square so they still line up in a quilt.

Where to find it

Shape Designer → Save as separate shapes in the top bar

Open the Shape Designer
In the Shape Designer, the Full moon's two curved pieces are saved with Save as separate shapes: the dialog names them Blocks – Moon, and Save 2 shapes saves Blocks – Moon 1 and Blocks – Moon 2 to the library

How to do it

  1. Draw two or more pieces in the Shape Designer, or pick a pair like Full moon under Starter shapes.
  2. Press Save as separate shapes in the top bar.
  3. Type a Name. The pieces are numbered in the order they were drawn, like Moon 1 and Moon 2.
  4. Press Save 2 shapes (or however many). Press View shapes to see them in your library, or Keep editing.

Good to know

  • Shapes you joined stay one shape.
  • Give each piece its own fabric in the quilt designer and they meet along their seam with no gap.
