Find the fabric and cut sizes for one block

The block builder's Fabric Calculator works out the fabric to buy for one block, with each fabric's pieces and their finished and cut sizes, so you can shop or scale it up.

Where to find it

Block builder → Fabric Calculator in the top bar, or My Library → Blocks → open the block → Fabric requirements

Open your blocks
In the block builder, Fabric Calculator opens Fabric for this block: ⅜ yard of piecing fabric per block, then each fabric with its pieces, finished size, cut size and yardage

How to do it

  1. Open your block in the block builder and press Fabric Calculator in the top bar.
  2. Fabric for this block opens with the total piecing fabric for one block.
  3. Below, each fabric says how much to buy, with a row per piece: how many, the finished size, the cut size and the shape.
  4. Change Seam allowance, Usable fabric width or Waste allowance under Assumptions, and switch Measurements to inches, centimeters or both.

Good to know

  • Batting, backing and binding belong to a whole quilt, so they're left out here. Put the block in a quilt for those.
  • For the whole quilt's yardage, use the Fabric Calculator in the quilt designer.
