Size hexagons for English paper piecing
The Hexagons calculator gives the paper size, the fabric hexagon around it with seam allowance, the strips to cut, and the yardage.
Where to find it
Studio top bar → Calculators → Hexagons. Also at quiltler.com → Calculators, and in the Calculators tab of the iPhone and iPad app.
Open the hexagon calculatorHow to do it
- Press Calculators in the studio's top bar and choose Hexagons. It opens on forty 1″ hexagons with a ⅜″ seam, with the answer already in the You need card.
- Type the Finished side (inches): the length of one edge, which is how hexagon papers are sold.
- Leave Seam allowance (inches) at ⅜″ or change it, and type How many hexagons you need.
- Read the card: the finished size flat to flat and point to point, the Cut strip width, the strips, and the yardage.
Good to know
- A “1 inch hexagon” means 1″ on each side, so it measures 2″ point to point.
